Developing My Main Character

Developing my main character is essential because she is the emotional anchor of the entire music video and the main way the audience will understand the core message. My character represents innocence, emotional depth, and quiet longing rather than dramatic or exaggerated romance. She is not designed to be a “typical love interest,” but rather someone who experiences love internally through memories, imagination, and subtle feelings. This makes her relatable, especially to young audiences who often experience emotional attachment before experiencing real relationships. Her personality will be calm, reflective, and observant, showing that strong emotions do not always need loud expression.

Her character will be developed visually through body language, facial expressions, and environment rather than dialogue. For example, instead of crying or acting dramatically, she may look at the sky, hold a book close to her chest, or pause while walking, suggesting emotional connection through stillness. These small actions communicate vulnerability and emotional sincerity. This approach reflects how film and music videos often use non-verbal communication to show emotions, which makes the performance feel more natural and realistic.

The costume and appearance of my main character will also play an important role in developing her identity. She will be styled simply, using soft colours and modest clothing to reflect purity and emotional softness. This avoids distracting the audience with glamour or bold fashion and keeps the focus on her emotions. For instance, light pastel tones or neutral shades can suggest calmness and vulnerability, supporting the gentle mood of the song. This aligns with how costume design in media is used to visually communicate personality and emotional state.

Her surroundings will further strengthen her character development. She will mostly be shown in quiet, open, or peaceful locations such as near a window, in a garden, or walking alone in a calm space. These environments mirror her internal emotions and make her appear thoughtful and emotionally aware. For example, a scene of her standing near soft sunlight can suggest hope and emotional warmth without any dialogue. This reflects how mise-en-scene is used in media to represent a character’s psychological state.

Through these choices, my main character becomes more than just a performer; she becomes a symbol of innocent, emotionally driven love. Her simplicity, quiet actions, and thoughtful presence support the core message of my music video by showing that love can be powerful even when it is gentle, private, and unspoken.
