Strengths I Bring Into This Year’s Project

Reflection And Improvement Creative Visual and Concept Development One of my strongest abilities as a Media  Studies student is my capacity to develop creative ideas and transform them into clear, structured concepts. During my AS coursework, I learned how to take an abstract idea and turn it into a visual narrative with purpose and meaning. This has strengthened my confidence in brainstorming concepts for my A2 music video. I am able to imagine not only the visual direction but also the emotional tone, pacing, and thematic elements that will shape the final product. This creative clarity helps me stay focused from the early planning stages through to production. Strong Understanding of Technical Production Skills My experience with AS media introduced me to key technical skills that now form the foundation of my A2 work. I am comfortable using a camera, understanding framing, composition, and basic cinematography principles. I also have a solid grasp on editing workflows, w...

Challenges I Anticipate in the Production Process

Technical Challenges As I begin preparing for my A2 music video, I am aware that the production stage is likely to be the most demanding part of the coursework. Unlike AS, where I produced a short film opening with fewer scenes and more controlled pacing, a music video requires constant movement, precise rhythm, and a wider variety of shots, locations, and stylistic choices. Because of this, I expect several challenges that will require careful planning, flexibility, and problem-solving during the filming and editing stages. Technical Difficulties One of the first challenges I anticipate involves technical issues. A music video demands smooth camera work, reliable equipment, and good lighting, all of which can be disrupted by unexpected problems such as battery drain, memory issues, unstable lighting conditions, or equipment malfunction. Since music videos often involve fast cuts, movement, and stylistic transitions, technical errors can easily break the flow of the final video. I expe...

Initial Expectations for the A2 Coursework

What I Expected To Be Challenging Starting my A2 coursework, I have a clear sense of what I expect from the production process, the challenges I may face, and the skills I hope to develop by the end of the project. Having completed my AS film opening, I now understand the workflow of media production more realistically, and I am entering A2 with both confidence and caution. This project is more advanced, requires independent decision-making, and demands a stronger balance between creativity and technical accuracy. What I Think Will Be Challenging One of my main expectations is that A2 will be more demanding in terms of complexity and workload. A music video requires a much higher level of coordination compared to a film opening because it involves synchronising visuals tightly with music, maintaining performance continuity, and creating a consistent aesthetic across the entire video. I expect challenges in: Time management, as filming multiple scenes for a music video can be unpr...

Why I Chose to Produce a Music Video for A2

My Experience With As Film Opening For my A2 coursework, I decided to produce a music video as my main media product. This decision was influenced by my experiences during AS level, where I created a film opening. While working on that project, I discovered that I excelled particularly in soundtrack selection and audio integration, which had a strong impact on the mood and emotional tone of the final product. I realised that manipulating sound and music to create meaning is one of my strengths, and producing a music video allows me to focus on this skill while also developing other technical and creative abilities. Personal Interest in Music Videos I have always enjoyed music videos because they combine storytelling, visuals, and music in a unique way. They allow creators to explore narrative, emotion, and style within a short format, giving room for experimentation. Producing a music video aligns with my interests and motivates me to explore advanced media techniques. Creative F...

Overview of MY A2 Coursework Brief

HOW THE BRIEF GUIDES MY PLANNING My A2 coursework brief requires me to produce a music video as my main media product. This task challenges me to demonstrate my understanding of media production processes, from planning to post-production, while applying theoretical knowledge and creative skills I have developed over the AS course. The brief also includes several supporting tasks, such as research, planning materials, and reflective evaluation, all of which are designed to showcase my analytical and technical abilities as a media student. What the Brief Asks For The coursework brief sets out clear expectations for the production of a music video. It requires students to produce a complete media product that communicates meaning effectively to a specific audience. This involves considering genre conventions, narrative techniques, visual style, and audio elements. Additionally, the brief asks for evidence of planning, research, and evaluation, meaning that every creative decision mu...

Skills I Developed During AS Level Media

CAMERA & FRAMING SKILLS   My AS coursework was my first proper experience working as a media producer rather than just a media student. It pushed me to learn technical, creative, and analytical skills that I didn’t have before. Each stage of the film opening project taught me something different, and together they built the foundation I’m now relying on for my A2 music video. 1. Camera Handling & Shot Composition Before AS, I only understood the basic idea of “press record.” Throughout the project, I learned how each camera setting and angle affects the audience’s response. I developed skills such as: adjusting exposure to match lighting conditions using rule of thirds to guide attention shooting stable handheld footage understanding when to use close-ups, medium shots, and wide shots to create meaning planning movement within the frame (pans, tilts, tracking) I realised that camera work isn’t just about capturing what’s in front of the lens it’s about controlling what the ...
