Target Audience and Engagement Strategy

Understanding who will watch and emotionally connect with my music video is an important part of my planning. Because my video is interpretive, emotional, and introspective, it appeals primarily to viewers who appreciate deeper artistic expression rather than fast-paced entertainment or performance trends. Research shows that emotional music videos especially those with atmospheric visuals, interpretive symbolism, and slow editing attract audiences who connect through mood and meaning rather than spectacle.

For example, a study on how music videos engage teenage and young adult audiences highlights that younger viewers (typically ages 15–25) are more likely to respond to videos that reflect personal emotion, identity questioning, and psychological depth. These audiences often use music and visuals as a way to understand their own emotions and life experiences, making them more receptive to interpretive styles like the one I am creating. This suggests that my target audience will include teens and young adults who value emotional realism and artistic interpretation over dramatic storytelling or performance.

In addition, social media platforms such as Instagram and YouTube are common places where emotionally driven music videos gain engagement. YouTube allows viewers to watch full-length music videos in context with the song, while Instagram encourages visual and emotional moments shared as short clips, reels, or still frames. Research on digital music consumption shows that these platforms are effective for reaching young audiences who seek mood-based content, emotional authenticity, and visually driven experiences. Therefore, I plan to publish my video on Instagram and optionally share it on YouTube for a broader audience reach.

This strategy aligns both with what research says about emotional music video audiences and how these audiences consume content online. Rather than targeting a broad demographic, I am focusing on those who emotionally connect with mood-based, interpretive visuals which fits the style and intention of my project.
