Representation of character
In my music video, the main character is represented as a complex and emotionally conflicted individual rather than a typical hero or villain. The focus is not on his actions, but on his internal state, allowing the audience to understand him through visual cues, symbolism, and atmosphere.
The character is portrayed as isolated and detached from the world around him. This is shown through the consistent use of empty spaces, minimal interaction, and controlled movement. He is often alone within the frame, which reinforces the idea that he is disconnected not only from others but also from himself. This representation challenges more conventional portrayals of male characters, which often emphasise strength, control, or dominance.
Instead, my character is presented as vulnerable and reflective. His body language is slow and restrained, and his actions are subtle rather than dramatic. This allows the audience to focus on small details, such as gestures and pauses, which communicate his emotional state more effectively than dialogue or exaggerated performance.
The use of costume also contributes to his representation. The formal suit suggests a constructed identity or role that the character has taken on, possibly linked to his past. However, this outward appearance contrasts with his internal struggle, highlighting a clear divide between how he presents himself and how he actually feels.
Facial visibility is intentionally limited throughout the video. By not fully revealing his face, the character becomes less individualised and more symbolic. This allows him to represent a broader idea of internal conflict and identity struggle, rather than being seen as a specific person with a fixed narrative.
Additionally, the character’s past is suggested through fragmented visual elements rather than direct storytelling. This reinforces the idea that he is shaped by his experiences but is now reflecting on them from a distance. His journey throughout the video is not about action or change in circumstances, but about emotional realisation and confrontation with himself.
Overall, the representation of the character focuses on vulnerability, isolation, and internal conflict. This aligns with the themes of the music video and allows the audience to connect with the character on a psychological and emotional level rather than through traditional narrative roles.
