Updated Storyboard
To plan the visual structure of my music video, I created a detailed storyboard that outlines the key shots and progression of events from beginning to end. This helped me organise my ideas into a clear sequence and ensured that the emotional flow of the video is consistent with the tone of the song.
The storyboard begins with a dark, minimal setting where the main character is introduced in isolation. The use of controlled framing and limited visibility of the character immediately creates a sense of mystery and emotional distance. The focus is not on revealing the character fully, but on suggesting his internal state through small actions and carefully composed shots.
As the sequence progresses, the storyboard introduces a transition into moments that represent the character’s past. These are not presented as a linear narrative but rather as fragmented visual memories. The shots are designed to be brief and stylised, allowing them to feel disconnected and unstable, which reflects the character’s mental state. The use of contrast between these moments and the present timeline helps to emphasise the difference between past actions and current reflection.
The middle section of the storyboard focuses on the character’s internal conflict. This is shown through slower pacing, controlled movement, and the use of space within the frame. The character is often positioned alone, with surrounding emptiness reinforcing the idea of isolation. Camera angles and shot types are carefully planned to avoid dramatic exaggeration, instead focusing on subtle expressions and body language.
As the video develops further, the storyboard introduces more symbolic elements that represent emotional weight and identity. These scenes are designed to be visually heavy and still, allowing the audience to focus on the meaning behind the imagery rather than fast-paced action. The transitions between shots are also planned to be smooth and gradual, maintaining a consistent rhythm throughout.
In the final part of the storyboard, the narrative returns to a setting similar to the opening. This creates a sense of circular structure, suggesting that the character is still trapped within his thoughts and experiences. The ending is intentionally left ambiguous, using visual symbolism rather than explicit action to conclude the video. This allows the audience to interpret the outcome based on the emotional journey presented.
